NYT Websting :p

Well today I went on the NYT (New York Times) website again. Like I said the last time I love reading their informative articles and commenting to give my opinions. I highly recommend it and I actually did better on the current events quiz today! Granted I looked up a couple of things but still!

What I Did on the New York Times Website :D

The New York Times is a great paper for not only adults, but teens as well. When I went on their website I read an informative and well - written article about remembering Earth Day. One of the suggestions was to remember Earth Days from your past and ask your parents about what they did growing up. It made me think of the time that I did a small project of my own centered around earth day through the years. I commented on the article and praised it for being interesting and fun. Then I took a daily quiz.... found out that I need to study more random news articles. Allover I liked the website, the crosswords were fun but not as challenging as I thought though, but I still liked the site.

Trash Questions II

1.) Olivia's views on money have changed in a way that she now sees that money is one of the most important element. She says it is the base of relationships and trust, and is like precious water. I think Olivia makes a point when she says, "Nobody knows the value of water until they've lived in a dry, dry place - like Behala."
2.) The most liberal article is in the University Voice, where students voice their opinions against Zepanta saying things like, "his only achievement is that he has made the country's poor feel worthless and powerless." and saying that they need a revolution.
3.) I think Andy Mulligan made the day of the dead the day where they found Pia Dante and the money because it builds suspense. The streets and graveyards are crowded with people so they are hard to spot, also so it feels like Jose and Gabriel are with them in some sense.

Trash Questions

1.   The prison was filled with cages, barley big enough for a short man to stand in. These cages went on for what seemed like forever to the boys, they were stacked far up high on top of one another. Olivia says it was like a hell, because of the many skinny, worn out, and starving bodies of the children imprisoned there. Raphael says that the reason they are even there is because his auntie had to admit to the police, “Raphael found something”.

2.    Gabriel Olondriz is the grandfather of Jose Angelico, the mysterious man who Olivia had known through her previous job. Olondriz and the kids meet at the Prison when Olivia, Gardo, Raphael, and Rat are taken into custody.

3.   About Rat’s home at the dumpsite and  the fact that his housing is so poor that he sleeps with the rats. Rat does not consider himself too poor though because hiding among all the rubbish is 2,326 pesos, what Rat calls his "going away fund. Rat keeps his money a secret, collecting money so that one day when he has saved enough he can go home.

4.  The gardener tells Raphael and Rat how Jose Angelico stole the money from the senator. The Senator told Jose to sell his fridge and order a new one, but when the deliverers begin to take the fridge away Jose tells them to leave it where they found it. After that no one had seen Jose and the story goes that he hid 6 million dollars in the fridge.

5.  I would take the first million and buy my mother the house she has always wanted in Manchester, Vermont. Then I would give 10,000 dollars to the Make a Wish foundation, so I can help kinds. Then I would  buy Nuble Lighthouse for my meena.

Pick it Up and Keep it Hidden

Running among the mountains of trash. Pick it up and keep it hidden.
You see the starving children who will never go to school. Pick it up and keep it hidden.
See how your people struggle in the deepest of filth to barley earn enough to eat. Pick it up and keep it hidden.
Away with the money in the leather bag, you fly past all struggle and pain. Pick it up and keep it hidden.
Past the crumbling graves of the dead. Pick it up and keep it hidden.
The police are catching up, their sirens call in the darkness of the night. Pick it up and keep it hidden.
There waits the trains at the station, you are scared to breath another breath. Pick it up and keep it hidden.
The clock is ticking, they are chasing. Your time is running out.
Pick it up and keep it hidden. Pick it up and keep it hidden.
You watch the flashing lights appear, you hear the anguished cries. You give a little smile and you finally take a sigh.

Abstract Noun Poem

Peace smells like the cold Atlantic Ocean at daybreak
Peace sounds like seagulls flying above the summer sunset
Peace looks like soft, pink lilies dotting the small pond in Paris
Peace tastes like a tall glass of spring water after a hard day of playing in the sun
